Tabular corundum and aluminium powder have been used as main starting materials to prepare metal-nitride bonded corundum slide plate by means of nitriding reactive sintering with phenolic resin as a binder.Bulk density, porosity, flexural strength, compressive strength, thermal shock resistance of samples sintered at different temperatures were tested and the microstructure of samples were detected.XRD,SEM EDX and OM were adopted to study the influences of the addition of aluminium powder, the grain size of aluminium powder and nitridation temperature upon the constituent, microstructure and properties of slide plate.Optimal processing schedule to fabricate metal-nitride bonded corundum slide plat was determined. The influences of the addition of Al2TiO5-mullite composite on the microstructure and properties of slide plate were investigated in order to find a method to integrate the strength and thermal shock resistance of slide plate. The results indicated that:(1) It is possible to make metal-nitride bonded slide plate by using tabular corundum and aluminium powder as main starting material by means of nitriding reactive sintering.(2) The slide plate would have better comprehensive properties when the addition of metal aluminium powder is at 12%and particle size of aluminium powder is 324 mesh. The compressive strength, flexural strength and thermal shock resistance of slide plate are good when slide plates were produced.(3) Ideal nitriding temperature is of 1000℃for metal-nitride bonded corundum slide plate.(4) The thermal shock resistance of slide plates was improved when Al2TiO5-mullite composite was introduced as middle particles into slide plate.
