Composite materials'interface is an extremely important microstructure,as the bridge of reinforcing materials and the matrix materials and also the tie of load transmission from the matrix materials to reinforcing materials, the interface composition, performance, binding mode, and the interface bonding strength have a significant impact on the mechanical properties of composite materials and the destruction behavior.By controlling the interfacial layer structure to adjust the interfacial properties in order to adapt to the needs of different environments is one purpose of fiber-reinforced polymer matrix composite materials, and studying on their interfacial properties has been a very active branch in the field of materials science and engineering. In this paper,in order to change the fiber wettability, fiber and resin bonding and mechanical chimerism to improve the interface bond strength, the thought of composite interface modification is the use of oxygen plasma on the surface modification of PBO fiber. PBO fiber(before and after surface modification) reinforced PPESK matrix composites interface performance was also analyzed.Specific tasks are as follows:using Inductive coupled plasma(ICP) in the oxygen atmosphere to treat PBO fiber, source power 13.56MHz, the cavity pressure 30Pa:(1) under the condition of 200W power,PBO fiber were treated with 5,10,15,20 and 25min respectively;(2) under the conditions of 100,200,300 and 400W power to treat PBO fiber 15min respectively.PBO fiber/PPESK unidirectional composite plate was made by high temperature compression molding.Effects of oxygen plasma treatment on surface properties of poly(p-phenylene benzobisoxazole)(PBO) fibers were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),atomic force microscopy(AFM) and dynamic contact angle analysis(DCAA) respectively. The improvement of interfacial adhesion of PBO fibers reinforced composites after oxygen plasma treatment were characterized by the interlaminar shear strength(ILSS) and water absorption measurements as well as scanning electron microscopy(SEM) analysis respectively.Through the analysis of ILSS test results, the modification conditions of plasma treatment were optimized, the results showed that PBO fiber/PPESK matrix composite interfacial bonding strength was substantial increased,ILSS increased to 47.67MPa,an increase of 46 percent by oxygen plasma treatment at 200W power and 15min.
