Dye is a kind of typical fine chemical products, wastewater of which is characterized with high concentration and complication of organic components, more difficultly reduced substances, high colority, poison etc. more than 80 percent dyes are azo dye. Azo dye, which is the most complete spectrum, most widely applied and lower cost dye, is widely applied in textile industry, printing and dyeing, leather industry etc. At present, the treatment of azo dye waste water is still a very difficult problem in our country. So the study on the treatment process is very important and useful.Investigation object of this paper is waste water with high consistence and high chroma which comes from an azo dye factory. Via study on the technology of waste water treatment process, decides to treat waste water by combined method of flocculation and biochemistry. It comes to conclusion in usage of flocculater by analysis of category of flocculater and running cost. This paper also shows the better result of SVI and SV% on effects of waste water. It means SVI<80 and SV% in between 15~90%. Bigger influence on COD with higher SS tell us the relation of these 2 aspects. It also comes to conclusion in better biochemistry running condition. It means 40~60T inputting water, 350~550 M3/h volume of agitating, 32 hr agitating time and 6~8g/L MLSS.This test has designed work flow of waste water treatment by investigation of process, characteristic of waste water of azo dye and impacts. Running results has proved this process could produce qualified waste water which align with national standard.
