Studies on bamboo fibers and yarns by ozone treatment will not only lay the theoretical and practical foundation for bamboo fiber's application in textile but also promote the utilization of bamboo resources, the process of bamboo fiber's industrialization and the development of textile industry of China. It has significant benefit and the market prospect is very wide.At first, the treating method and parameters of ozone for bamboo fibers made by our research group were groped, and the performances of processed bamboo fibers were evaluated. The optimum technological conditions for treating bamboo fibers with ozone had been obtained.Secondly, the mechanism of ozone action with lignin was studied. It was found that the reaction rate constant was 0.0021 and the reaction kinetic equation was: -dC木/ dt = 2.1×10-3C木1.5.Finally, the combination of the pretreatment, the ozone treatment and the post treatment for bamboo fiber yarns were optimized. It was found that the best combination was: the pre-treating, the ozone treating, soda boiling, oxygen bleaching and the ultrasonic treating. The count of yarns, the fiber fineness, the whiteness, the breaking tenacity, the yarn evenness, the contents of lignin and the residual gum rate of bamboo yarns under this condition were respectively 201.68 tex, 2.33 tex, 79.61%, 2.5 cN/tex, 2.8, 4.72%, 18%.By this studies, it was demonstrated that the ozone treatment could reduce the level of lignin greatly, lower the count of yarns and increase the whiteness. Additionally, the pretreatment, the post treatment and the ultrasonic treatment could improve the performances of the bamboo fiber yarns further.
