| Due to their low energy consumption and low environment pollution, water based emulsion paints are more and more popular in China, and they are widely used for decoration and protection of the buildings. Emulsion paints increasingly display their advantages: abundant colors, convenient applications, easy for maintenance and recoating. In addition, the emulsion paints acquire satisfying developments on the performance of weather resistance, color retaining and anti-chalking. Now there is one main problem puzzled the emulsion paints manufacturers: how to keep the excellent washing resistance and alkali resistance in a high PVC formulation. This is especially important for China- the developing country.To improve latex paint washing resistance and alkali resistance in a high PVC formulation, this study will focus on styrene acrylic emulsion, the type that is most used now in China. Based on emulsion polymerization, design the experiment to investigate the factors contributing the emulsion performance and stability, and make discussion on the production process and inspection of the studied silicone modified acrylic emulsion.The main aim in this thesis is preparation of silicon modified styrene acrylic emulsion via different acrylic monomers. In the study of the process parameters and sample inspection, it seeks after the new way for the industrialization emulsion in the future.The first chapter reviewed the theory of emulsion synthesis and silicon modification method. The second chapter seeks after the parameters of silicon modified styrene acrylic emulsion. Through sample inspection and process parameters controlling, we study the relationship between emulsion viscosity, content, pH, emulsion particle size and the screened material. After study, we find those factors are the key controlling parameters. In the study of parameters and theory analysis, we could optimize the process parameters. At present, most types of silicon modified styrene acrylic emulsions are supplied by foreign manufacturers. Local emulsions are with limited types and general performances because of domestic manufacturers are weak for the research development ability, parameter controlling capability and instrument quality limitation. With exploring this kind of water-solubility silicon modified styrene acrylic emulsion, we are sure it would have good market potential. |
