In this study, embedded polar group of bonded silica gel stationary phase, poly(n-butyl acrylate) bonded stationary phase(SI-PBA) and poly(N-isopropyl- acrylamide) bonded stationary phase(SI-PNIPAM), was prepared by reacting silica gel with 3-mercaptopropyl trimethoxysilane (MPS). Characterization of prepared packing was carried out with elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR) spectroscopy. Chromatographic evaluations were carried out by testing with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, position isomers of disubstituted benzene, position isomers of naphthol, basic compounds using methanol-water as binary mobile phase. The applicable ranges of pH and stability of embedded polar group stationary phase were also evaluated. For the separation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, embedded polar group stationary phase has the same peak sequence as ODS column, and can complete the baseline separation in a short time. This provide the basis for rapid separation of strong retentions hydrophobic material on ODS column. For the separation of strong polar material, embedded polar group stationary phase has strong retention time, and appear different peak sequence with ODS column,it can solve the separation of strong polar material on ODS column. For the separation of naphthol, recognition ability of embedded polar group stationary phase is superior to ODS column. SI-PNIPAM can be used to separate basic solutes efficiently due to the existence of the special structure containing internal polar amide group contributing to restraining the activity of the residual silanol group below the lower-critical-solution temperature(LCST).After characterization of the effect of flow-rate of mobile phase on the column pressure, HETP and the applicable ranges of ph and stability of embedded polar group stationary phase, the results show that the stationary phase has excellent chromatographic properties and resistance to hydrolysis between pH=2.5-7.5.
