Coordination chemistry is one of the frontier sciences. There are extensive interest in synthesis and properties of 2,2'-bipyridyl derivative with specifical function,due to its coordinate ability to the metal. As ligands,they have become one of most popular chelated ligands in the modern coordination chemistry. Many research works is done on substituting groups with the effect in electrochemical and photochemical properties of the complexes. With benifitfiul position and steric complications on complexation,the 4,4′disubstitution 2,2'-bipyridyl ligand have attracted much attention . It is popular opinion that the substituted group will result in change in the redox potential of transition metal bipyridine complexes. The electron donating/withdrawing groups in the 4,4′-positions make a important effect to the redox potential of transition metal bipyridyl complexes. In this thesis,our research work was focused on the 2,2'-bipyridyl's aromatic ligand with donating groups as follow:With pyridine as raw material,2,2'-bipyridyl was obtained with Raney-Ni as the catalyst. 2,2'-bipyridyl N,N′-dioxide can also be gained through the reaction of 2,2'-bipyridyl with hydrogen peroxide. Through fuming nitric acid,we got 4,4'-dinitro-2,2'-bipyridyl N,N′-dioxide. At last,the compound,4,4'-diamino-2,2'-bipyridyl,could be achieved with the deoxidize reaction using hydrate. The Nickel complex was obtained with the reaction of 4,4'-diamino-2,2'-bipyridyl and Ni(NO3)2·6H2O,The ligand and its complex were characterized by elemental analysis,IR ,UV-vis,fluorescence and 1H NMR spectra,Some mechanism was suggested by IR and UV-vis,composition and structure was suggest.With 4,4'-dinitro-2,2'-bipyridyl N,N′-dioxide as raw material,4,4'-dibromo-2,2'-bipyridyl N,N′-dioxide was obtained through acetyl bromide. 4,4'-dibromo-2,2 '-bipyridyl can also be gained with the reaction of 4,4'-dibromo-2,2'-bipyridyl N,N′-dioxide and phosphrous tribromide. Through the reaction with trimethylchlorosilane and n-butylithium,we achieved a new compound,4,4'-bis(trimethylsilyl)-2,2'-bipyridyl. It was characterized by elemental analysis,IR and 1H NMR spectra.We have done some research work in property and systhsis of 2,2'-bipyridyl ligands. The properties of 4,4'-diamino-2,2'-bipypridyl and its complex have been understood,As we know, there are no report about the ligand,4,4'-bis(trimethylsilyl)-2,2'-bipyridyl. The results would do favor to our further research work.
