The lacking of petroleum and the environmental pollution require new fuel to be instead. Biofuel obtained from renewable recources has low pollution on the environment and causes wide attention. Nowdays, biodiesel is producted by interchange esterification, but this way has some drawbacks. A new method of catalytic hydrogenation of vegetable oil for production of clean diesel was studied.A series non-noble metal hydrogenation catalysts were prepared in the paper. Using these catalysts, hydrogenating on vegetable oil was investigated. Basing on the results of reaction, the optimum catalyst and operation conditions were obtained. The results showed that, under the experiment condition, sulfided NiMo/Al2O3 exhibited higher activity for the conversion of vegetable oil than other catalysts, and the optimum proportion of MoO3 and NiO was 16wt% and 6wt/%, respectively. To gain the higher activity, Mo and Ni were loaded on Al2O3 in turn, and the optimum roasting temperature was 450℃. The ideal sulfuration conditions were a vulcanizator of 3 wt% CS2/cyclohexane, a sulfurization temperature of 380℃, a sulfurization pressure of equalling to reaction pressure and a sulfurization time of 8 h. Under the conditions of 4~5MPa, 390~420℃, a WHSV of 1~2h-1 and a volumatric ratio of H2 to oil of 500, the diesel yield was 80wt%. The deactivation of catalyst was also investigated and the results indicated that desulphurisation of the catalyst was the main reason of deactivation. Some CS2 can be added into the vegetable oil as the supplement of the desulphurisation of the catalyst. And then, hydrotreating reaction of FCC diesel-vegetable oil mixtures was discussed. The HDS reaction of FCC diesel and hydrotreating reaction of vegetable oil don't affect each other. At last, application prospects analysis of the hydrotreating method for clean diesel was made.
