The melamine-formaldehyde resin was a kind of newly developed flame-retardant resin which possess excellent performance at high temperature. In spit of this, pure melamine-formaldehyde resin was a thermosetting polymer, and it formed a cross-linking network structure in three dimensions , a rigidity trizingl group included in the network structure ,thus resulted in that the melamine-formaldehyde resin is hard and fragile. The melamine-formaldehyde resin which modified with methyl hydroxyl silicone fluid and polyvinyl alcohol was studied in this article. rotation viscometer was used to determine the viscosity and molecular mass of the products when polymerizing. The reaction conditions (such as reaction temperature, PH value, solid content) were analyzed in the paper and the optimum reaction conditions were concluded after the analysis; the orthogonal experiment was used to search for the optimum material ratio; the structure of the modified resin was investigated using infrared spectroscopy; the properties of the modified resin were examined using tensile measurements, DSC, TG-TGA, water extraction method, oxygen method, and so on.The results indicate that the toughness of the modified resin was improved; though the fire-retardant property of the modified resin with silicone was reduced, the degree of it was smaller than using other modifier; the free formaldhyde emission of the modified resin was 0.98%, the oxygen value of it was 49.5.
