Ionic liquids(ILs) are attracting ever increasing attention as possible environmentally benign solvent.They can be used as replacements for selected organic solvents in electrochemistry,synthesis,catalysis and separation.In environment field,volatile hazardous organic solvents have significant use in extracting contamination,while pose detrimental effects on the environment as well as human health.To exploit the potentiality of ILs in environment science replacing traditional solvents,in this paper we developed using ILs to extract polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) in water.Based on the structure of PAHs,a series of new hydrophobility ILs were synthesized by combination of quinoline,isoquinoline,benzoimidazole cations and hexafluorophosphate,bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide anions.The structure and thermal properties of the ILs were characterized.Primary study indicated that ILs containing a conjugated aromatic core in particular offers potential opportunities for the separation of PAHs from aqueous.The mechanism of IL and PAHs interaction were studied through quantum chemistry.The structure parameter and electronic structrue were calculated at B3LYP/6-31G * level.The results indicated that the interactions of IL~+and PAHs are hydrogen bonds of the C-H...Ï€type.Anions affected the interaction in IL~+ and PAHs through competition for the IL~+.
