In the presence of phase transfer catalyst, 2-vinyloxyethyl (methyl) acrylate was synthesized via the reaction of 2-chloroethyl vinyl ether and sodium (methyl) acrylate. The effects of different catalysts and reaction conditions were investigated. The results show optimum reaction conditions are: the ratio of 2-chloroethyl vinyl ether to sodium (methyl) acrylate, 5:1(mol); reaction temperature, 110℃; reaction time, 4h.With DPHL as catalyst, polymerizations of VEMA in THF were carried out. Polymers with mono-dispersed molecular weight were obtained. Molecular weight distribution was between 1.11-1.2. In addition, anionic polymerizations of VE(M)AA were accomplished. The results indicate optimum reaction conditions are: reaction temperature, no higher than -30℃; reaction time, 40min. With DPHL as catalyst, polymerizations of VEAA in THF were carried out also. The optimum reaction conditions were found to be: reaction temperature, -78℃; reaction time, 40min. Block copolymers based on styrene and VEMA were prepared and identified. Charge transfer complex (CTC) between MAH and PVEMA was detected. The formation of CTC was confirmed by UV spectroscopy and the equilibrium constant of CTC was determined by ~1H NMR method. The grafting copolymers from MAH/PVEMA were obtained, and the releted mechanism was proposed according to the data and phenonmena.
