At present in order to reduce the weight,vertical and horizontal ribs in structure are designed in the parts of many equipments with thin plate. Casting, numerical control machining and welding methods have been used to produce those complex parts with ribs usually, in which there are so many questions in those processing, such as, lower use factor of the material, higher cost of the processing and lower mechanics property of the product, etc. According to the study of forming characters of ribs, the extrusion forming of intra-cavity rib is analyzed generally in this article. A special structure is designed in the model for extrusion forming, and the numerical simulation and experimental study have been carried on either.The forming processing being analyzed by 3-D simulation with MSC/superform, much key information such as stress distribution, strain changing and rules of metal flow are obtained. Result of simulation says that it is suitable to extrude at temperature 460℃while other parameters are determined too.Basing on the numerical simulation results, the isothermal extrusion forming of technology has been confirmed, and the better optimal design of mold is selected according to the comparison of two different ones. At last the physics experiment is completed and the results of the numerical simulation are confirmed. All the results show that the numerical results are consistent with the experimental result which means the numerical simulation is useful in conducting the experiment and the design of technology and mold are reasonable.
