The 3D body measurement system can obtain human dimensions information in digital way speedily and accurately, which can be used for clothing industry, anthropology, medical science, industry design, man-machine engineering and so on. So the 3D body measurement system has important research meanings and extensive application value. As a method of 3D measurement technology, the phase detection of projected grating has a great many advantages, such as non-contact, large field of view, high precision, high measurement speed, easily to realize, etc. So the 3D body measurement system discussed by this paper was designed based on this principle and the feature of body measurement. The concrete process was as follows. We established implementing scheme of the 3D body measurement system; according to the scheme, we designed its mechanical structure and system control circuit; on this basis, we compiled software of it. Meanwhile we did some research and experiments about system calibration, and then we accomplished the 3D body measurement system. Subsequently, measuring human body by the system we got point cloud data of the body, which was used to reconstruct the 3D body after past by some processing such as noise-suppressed processing, smooth processing, deleting the excessive and unavailable points, etc. And this was considered to a using of this system.When we measure the human body by the 3D body measurement system, it shows that the system, which is easy to be operated on, has a high automation and fast speed to measure and treat data. And the 3D body measurement system has three phase graph shooting systems which located at one circumference homogeneously and can move in the vertical direction to two locations. The circumference belongs to a plane which is parallel to horizontal plane. With this implementing scheme, the 3D body measurement system can acquire point cloud data of the whole body easily; meanwhile the measuring result could satisfy the need of commonly industrial application. At the same time, the 3D body measurement system is designed based on USB, so it is able to plug and play, which is conveniently to move. The point cloud data of the body obtained in this way are dispersive, but the different parts data can be automatic mosaic to be a whole one. With the thinking of nonlinear distortion on the radius direct of the lens, the CCD camera is calibrated, which improved the accuracy of the measurement system. Then we analysis the constraint conditions to carry out the phase method, and find that some constraint conditions are not necessary. So we delete them and get the new parameters of the phase method. Compare to the original parameters, the number is reduced, so it is improve efficiency of calibration.
