The Research And Design Of The Shaft/Housing Pair Used In Air Drilling Motor

Air and Gas drilling is one of the most important parts of under-balanced drilling techniques, which now is being used all over the world because of its benefits. And with the development of Air and Gas drilling, a lot of horizontal wells and directional well should be drilled with Air drilling PDM. So the Air drilling Motor is badly in need, and R&D on Air Drilling Motor become a hot topic. In view of the defect of the available Air drilling motor, this paper carried R&D on the new power section of the Air drilling Motor.This paper discussed the power section of the Air drilling Motor with theory. First, the working theory of the PDM was analyzed, and the curve of the shaft and house were chosen. And the some formulas which were not stated in the"the Curve optimization of the PDM made by UPC East", were deduction in the paper. The curve of the 5/6 lobe shaft/housing pair was optimized. Second, the theory of air drilling was analyzed. Third, the working theory of the positive displacement compressor was studied in order to know which theory of the gaseousness should be used in the Air drilling Motor. Combined with the working theory of the PDM, the air drilling and the positive displacement compressor, two types of the shaft/housing pair used in air drilling motor were designed in this paper and the method about how to design the new types of the shaft/housing pair were preliminarily formed. And the formulas of character of the Air drilling motor were deducted. At last, how to choose Air drilling Motor in the process of Air and Gas drilling were discussed. And the strain of the shaft/housing pair was analysised by ANSYS.
