Titanium alloy laser welding were widely used in some important components of aerospace product, but pores and other volume style defects are easy to emerge in the laser weldments of titanium alloy. In order to ensure the security of aerospace craft, nondestructive testing of important laser weldments is needed.The factors which can influence the properties of X-ray real time image-forming system were analyzed in this paper, system spatial resolution, sensitivity and other system parameters were measured also. At the same time the modulation transfer function was measured by using the method of step, and it was used to evaluate the system properties objectively.According to the following characteristic of detection images such as small defects and low contrast and so on, Automated contrast and partial gray stretch were used to enhance the detection image firstly, then automated threshold method was adopted to extract the weld zones, and sharpening and smoothing processing were proceeded in the extracted weld zones individually, finally the small defects were segmented by combining the method of background subtraction. Since the above algorithm can extract the weld zones and eliminate bad effects of high intensity of raster edge, also the processing was carried out in the extracted weld zones, so the processing speed was improved greatly.In order to achieve the automated visualization of defects in laser weldments, weldments defects visualization program was developed based on the software of Pro/E. The second development method of Pro/toolkit and synchronous working module were adopted in this paper, the second development program based on Pro/E software was established by using the VC guide. After the registration of program was finished, the single defect visualization in laser weldments was achieved.In order to solve the input problem of bulk defects data, defects visualization program based on the software Matlab was developed. GUI interface which can achieve the man-machine interactive mode was designed, the following function can be achieved through the GUI interface, such as automated input of bulk defects data, automated generation of weldments three-dimensional model, adjustment of transparency and view and so on. In addition, defects visualization efficiency is improved, it will provide better basis for the future engineering application.
