Study On The Space Landscape For Xuanwu-Lake In Nanjing

At the beginning of building the city, considering water as one of the significant factors of choosing a building site, people tend to build the city near the water. The Xuanwu Lake is to the Nanjing city what the lip is to teeth, having great impacts on the construction of the city. With the acceleration of urbanization in recent years, the land around the lake is occupied gradually by the increasing tall building; ecological environment and traditional landscape pattern are in devastated need of changing. The prospect will be confronted with opportunity and challenge.This paper, based on the study of bibliography and theory , investigation and evaluation, comparison and reference, practice and maintenance as well as various interdisciplinary knowledge involved in ecological, aesthetic, landscape and social aspects, discussed the Xuanwu-Lake's development , evolution related to the process of urbanization and its culture inherited from history, analyzed lake spatial morphology feature in aspects of outer and inner spatial morphology as well as the plant landscape; In addition, through the POE method, on -the-spot observation, questionnaires and the semantics curve analysis, and random investigation, obtained objective and authentic evaluations in lake's present situation and reflected lake user's request. Moreover, the paper, from aspects of natural ecology, landscape cognition, utilization support and maintenance, established the comprehensive evaluation system for the Xuanwu-Lake space landscape and graded it with the evaluation results of quantitative and qualitative analysis, hoping to find the key problem of the construction and offer the optimum advice. The methods and suggestions in this study can also be applied in other lakes having the similar problem.
