This paper reports on the producing process of cotton stalk scrimber based on the urea-formaldehyde resin adhesive. The effects of process parameters, namely board density, glue consumption, hot-pressing temperature and hot-pressing time, on the scrimber's mechanical performance were discussed and the best process parameters were confirmed in this paper. It also presents the performance comparison with scrimbers made of capsicum stalk, tobacco stalk, soybean straw, cotton stalk and corn stalk, which is important to the rational development of stalk scrimber. This study includes three sections, the first section on the characteristics of cotton stalk, the second section on the hot-pressing process of cotton stalk including orthogonal experiment with the various factors and the single-factor test, and the last section on relative parameters of scrimber including different materials and different boiling time and the design theory of roller. The results are as follows:(1)The main factors to affect scrimber's performance are board density, glue consumption, hot-pressing temperature and time. The best process parameters can be confirmed as density 0.7 g/cm3, glue consumption 12 %, hot-pressing temperature 120℃and hot-pressing time 14 min by means of experiments and analysis of variance.(2)The experiments showed that board density and glue consumption had very distinct effect on MOE, board density and hot-pressing time had very distinct effect on MOR, board density had very distinct effect on IB, glue consumption had distinct effect on TS2h, and hot-pressing time has very distinct effect on TS2h.(3)As the density increasing every 0.4~1.0 g/cm3, the MOE increases linearly, and the IB trend line comes to a parabola, and the TS2h trend line comes to a V. As the glue consumption increasing every 3~18 %, MOE and MOR trend lines both come to conics, IB trend line comes to a parabola, and TS2h experiences exponential changes. As the hot-pressing temperature increasing every 80~200℃, the MOE, MOR and IB trend lines all come to parabolas, and the TS2h trend line comes to a V. As the hot-pressing time increasing 6~22 min the MOE, MOR and IB trend lines all come to parabolas, and the TS2h trend line comes to a V. (4)Compared with capsicum stalk scrimber, tobacco stalk scrimber, soybean straw scrimber and corn stalk scrimber, cotton stalk scrimber has the best MOE which is 7 051.81 MPa, the best MOE which is 57.53 MPa. The capsicum stalk scrimber has the best IB which is 0.72 MPa and the corn stalk scrimber has the best TS2h which is 3.5 %.(5)As the boiling time increasing 0~6 h, the MOE hardly changes, MOE and IB both decreases linearly, and the TS2h changes a lot.
