Over consumption of natural resources as well as the huge amount of waste produced, caused a severe pollution of our environment. The problem of disposing and utilizing the waste materials based on effective consumption of natural resources had become the current research key point. As a new eco-material,woodceramics are receiving more and more attention. It was reported to have many excellent performances such as wear resistance, corrosion resistance, conductibility, high strength, low density and electromagnetic shielding ability, therefore,it has potential application in many industries. This paper studied the fabrication of woodceramics using the wood powder impregnated with epoxide resign carbonized under high temperature and nitrogen circumstance. The Sintering process of preparing woodceramics and the extent of mass ratio were determined based on the thermogravimetry analysis and previously experiment. The effect of mass ratio,Sintering temperature, and holding time on carbon residue ratio, volume shrinkage ratio, open porosity and mechanical property were investigated concretely. The microstructure of woodceramics prepared in different Mass ratio and Sintering temperature was characterized by the techniques of X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The tribology property of woodceramics under different technological and friction conditions were analysed.By the changing of preparation conditions,it was found that the mass ratio, Sintering temperature, and holding time had evidence influence on the properties of woodceramics, when the content of epoxide resin decreased,Sintering temperature increased and holding time prolonged, the carbon residue ratio reduced gradually, volume shrinkage ratio increased. The open porosity decreased by the content of epoxide resin increasing. It first increased and then decreased gradually after 1000℃by the Sintering temperature increasing. From the photo of SEM,it could be found that the woodceramics was a new porous carbon hybrid material and made up of grass-like carbon generated from epoxide resin and amorphous carbon derived from wood powder. The pores, which originally exsisted in the wood powder, still remained in the woodceramics. The amorphous carbon were enclosed by the grass-like carbon. There were only two peaks appearing in the XRD graph, they were(002)peak and(100)peak. The microstructure of woodceramics changed a little in different mass ratio.Sintering temperature had small effect on the degree of graphitization. The microhardness, bend strength and compression strength of woodceramics all increased with the increasing of epoxide resin content, but the mass ratio of wood powder and epoxide resin must be controlled above 4:4.Sintering temperature could increase the mechanical property of woodceramics when the extent was 800~1200℃. By the study of the tribology property of woodceramics,it was not good for the wearability when the epoxide resin content was too high or too low.The wearability of woodceramics could get better when the mass ratio was 4:2.Sintering temperature had small effect on the wearability of woodceramics but load had dear influence. The wearing capacity of woodceramics in water lubricated condition was less than in unlubricated and the effect was more obvious when it worked under high speed. The wearing capacity was large early in the wear life.Along with the time extension, the wearing capacity reduced gradually and the lowwer wearing capacity was held at the end.The experimental study above confirmed that it was feasible to prepare woodceramics by wood powder and epoxide resin.Woodceramics of good performance could also be prepared by magnetic stirring instead of conventional method. It was not only effective to utilize resources but also resolved the problem of non-uniformity.All these research results might provided a firm groundwork for producing woodceramics in industry and extending application field of woodceramics.
