The strident noise will be heard and the operation of machine will be unstable when the friction pair is worn. This will accelerate the surface wear of the friction pair, and increase the rejection rate of parts. A new technology is active demanded to reduce the rate of wear and repair the worn zone at the same time. To reduce wear, lubricants are always used because it can spread out film at the surface. Enhancing anti-wear property of surface is another method by many surface technologies. The effect will be better when this two way are used together. A new technology--Wear-self-repairing, which can in-situ repair the zone-wore of the friction-pairs was first generated in Russian. With the inspiration of this technology, a new kind of mixture ceramic powder was prepared by the planetary ball milling machine. The tribological property and self-repairing performance of ceramic powder as lubricant additive was investigated by four-ball test at higher contact stress, and the effect of various factors on these properties was also performed. To research self-repairing performance of ceramic powder as lubricant additive at extruding processing, a friction test machine was designed and manufactured. The wear surfaces were analyzed by SEM and EDS. The results is as follows:This ceramic additive is different from traditional ones because it does not change the original property of base lubricant, and has excellent anti-wear and repair the worn surface of metal. This can improve the properties of wore surface in physics, chemical and mechanics. The ceramic additive can in-situ repair the worn surface of metal friction pairs. The service life of machines can be greatly prolonged by adding the ceramic additive in lubricant. The ceramic additive has an excellent anti-wear property to metal under any condition, so its anti-wear property is non-selective. However, it can repair the worn zones only in proper conditions, so this is selective, and self-repairing property is decided by friction energy. In all effective factors, load is most important.Increasing load will accelerate the forming of self-repairing film; the rotation radio is second. The ceramic additive displayed better self-repairing property with speed growing. But its consent composition had more effect on the extent of repairing the worn surface.
