Pollution flashover is a devastating discharge along the surface caused by contaminated area of insulator. With the sharp increase in transmission capacity, the increase in transmission voltage, and the increasing degradation in our local environmental conditions, the accidents caused by pollution flashover occured frequently, thus the damage to power transmission line system was errible. To prevent and reduce the pollution flashover is an important measure for maintaining the security of the power grid.In this paper, we summarized a lot of scientific literature, summed up the pollution flashover accidents of various insulators, and analysed the cause of pollution flashover, put forward the way that used coatings to change the interface of porcelain insulators to improve its anti-pollution ability. The main work is as follows:It designed unique primer of acrylic resin-based materials, through the choice of silane coupling agent, the adhesion of coating in ceramic glaze can rearch 0 grade to 1 grade, and tolerance in hot water and chemical resistance was good.Acrylic resin was prepared by solution polymerization and charactered by IR and GPC. It discussed the influence of the initiator concentration, monomer concentration, reaction temperature, monomer dropping time and holding time for molecular weight, viscosity and conversion rate of the resin. The result showed that under the same conditions, with the increasing of initiator concentration and the reaction temperature, the reducing of monomer concentration, relative molecular mass was a downward trend. With the increase of initiator concentration, the reducing of monomer concentration,the prolonging of monomer dropping time, the viscosity of resin decreased significantly. With the increase of initiator concentration and reaction temperature, the conversion rate increased gradually. The infrared spectra of synthetic resin showed that bond did not appear in the resin, monomer had been reacted completely.Anti-pollution flashover topcoats were prepared with silicone-based materials, and gained the good anti-pollution flashover coatings. The artificial aging time of coatings>1700h; the dielectric strength is 27.5kV/mm ~29.2kV/mm; flashover voltage of insulator with coatings was 1.6 times of flashover voltage of insulator without coatings. It researched the hydrophobicity of coatings, the addition of fluoride additives can improve the hydrophobicity effectively, and the wax powers resolved the hydrophobic-migration of hard coatings. It also researched the loss of hydrophobicity and the recovery of hydrophobicity, the result is good.The coatings prepared in this paper are hard, high toughness, and self-cleaning anti-pollution flashover coatings, it resolved the deficiencies of soft, easy to absorb dust and reducing the anti-pollution flashover performance about RTV coatings. It also put forward Industrialized painting before leaving the factory. It's advantageous to ensure the product quality. Further researching and developing the anti-pollution flashover coatings have important significance for resovling the pollution flashover on sufarce of insulators.
