Lost Foam Casting(LFC) has been applied successfully to production of automotive gear-box by a dozen of foundry in China.But foam-mold's design and manufacture of complex gear-box is still a technical problem for many LFC foundries. How to develop foam-mold efficiently and effectively,which is bottle-neck to promote LFC's application.Emphasis in this paper is that:base on UG platform, we explore feasible,repeatable,dependable resolution focused on whole foam mold development.Base on UG/Modeling, we summarize a set of operational method specialized in three dimensional modeling and mold design of complex gear-box; 3D parameterized standard part of steam-base is built on UG CAD platform by utilizing UG re-development tools: UG/Open API, MenuScript, UIStyler, and Visual C++ 6.0,which improve the quality, efficiency, and standardization level of the aotumotive gear-box mold design and shorten its design period;Base on our rich manipulated experience on UG, we summarize the category,origin and resolution of model quality,which we always meet in subsequent processe;Base on UG/Manufacturing,we achieve effective and efficient manufacture of deep,narrow mold cavity and assemble foam-mold successfully. Specialized for complex gear-box foam mold, we form a mature technical routine.Two set of foam-mold we developed have been applied successfully in mass production of 18686-C automotive case, which improve precision and lighten weight of casting, achieve more markets and customers for Shanxi Huaen Corporation.
