At present, the research of economical efficient process and the technical treatment of containing sulfate organic wastewater is one of focus to wastewater government engineering. Anaerobic processes are one of process which has the most competitive ability; because it can treat high organic wastewater and can produce energy and conserve energy.Because the anaerobic baffle reactor (ABR) has synthesize the advancements of single-phase anaerobic reactor and two-stage anaerobic reactor. It shows that the treatment of low, center and high concentrated organic wastewater can achieve better effect. As the unique structure characteristic and the processing capacity of ABR, it has received many scholars' focusing attention on, but regarding the research on sulfate organic wastewater with ABR still to be few, in view of the fact that carried on an experiment to deal with the containing sulfate organic wastewater with ABR.As the characteristic of ABR, this paper has studied the ABR reactor start-up in low organic loading, as well as the reactor performance characteristic and the ecology characteristic in every compartment of ABR under the different COD/SO42- ratio was researched .The result indicates that: (1) with initial organic loading for 2㎏COD/(m3.d), HRT=24h, gradually enhances organic loading to start-up, after more than 100 day-long operation, COD removal efficiency stabilizes above 95%, the start–up succeed. (2) When ABR reactor deal with containing sulfate organic wastewater which COD/SO42- ratio is 20,10, 5.0, COD and SO42- removal efficiency above 80%, when COD/SO42- ratio is 2.5 , COD and SO42- removal efficiency above 68%, when COD/SO42- ratio is 2.0, ABR reactor acidifies, loses the dealing ability. The result is that when COD/SO42- > 2.5, the reactor processing effect is good. (3) Selects the no sulfate start-up way, the test result indicated that COD/SO42- ratio is 20, 10, 5, COD and SO42- removal efficiency are higher, MPB is the dominant bacteria, When COD/ SO42- ratio is 2.5, the competition of MPB and SRB to substrate is most intense; When COD/SO42- ratio is 2.0, the sulfate density has the serious inhibitory to MPB and SRB, ABR reactor acidifies, loses the dealing ability. (4) Under the different COD/SO42- ratio the dominant bacteria in every compartment of ABR reactor is different, the dominant bacteria in every compartment variation along with the COD/SO42- ratio changing.
