The study of tribology and bionics, and experimental research have proved that the smoothing surface dose not always has good wear resistant performance, and surface micro texturing can remarkably improve surface tribological performance. Recently, surface micro texturing, as a controllable technique of tribological performance, has been studied by lots of researchers. Experimental reaseach and numerical simulation of texturing surface tribological performance has been a focus for the international research increasingly. In this paper, firstly, an experimental reaserch was been taken on the performance of friction and wear of micro texturing surface. And on the condition of dry friction, the effects of load, material, velocity, and the parameters of micro texturing surface(distance, depth) on friction coefficient were reserched by the Orthogonal method. The results are that, on the condition of face to face contact, Experimental factors affecting friction coefficient are, in a sequence of contribution, load, depth, velocity and distance. And on the condition of point to face contact, Experimental factors affecting friction coefficient are, in a sequence of contribution, load, depth, distance and velocity. The friction coefficient of the crater surface can quickly be stable. And the contact fatigue strength of the crater surface can obviously be improved. Secondly, a mathematics model was given. According to the model, the relationship of the surface micro texturing, and friction coefficient and wear coefficient was discussed. Thirdly, a thermo-structure simulation approach with ANSYS was used to get the distribution of thermo, stress/strain and contact press in the different ways of contact. The effects of load, material, velocity, and the parameters of micro texturing surface(distance, depth) on tribological performance were discussed. The result is that, the crater surface is good for decreaseing stress concentration and heat Diffusion. And the decreasing of stress concentration is beneficial to reducing stress field intensity. Furthermore, a wear model using a wear algorithm based on the Archard equation was used to simulate the wear of pin and disc. The wear of smoothing surface was compared with the one of micro texturing surface. And the effects of load, distance and depth on the wear were discussed. The result is that, the depth and distance of craters affects the distributing of contact press, but there are no relationship with the depth and distance of craters and wearing depth. And the distributing of wear coefficient obviously affects wearing depth. the distributing of wear coefficient of the crater surface is beneficial to reducing the wear. Finally, The simulated results of wear curve are compared with the experiment results .The formers accord well with the latters .It did say, numerical simulation is feasible and reliable. In a word, the crater surface can obviously chang the tribological performance on the condition of dry friction. It can not only improve the stability of friction coefficient, but also increase the fatigue life of contact surface. It has significant value of study and application prospect.
