Torpedo car is one of the most necessary tool in iron making. It is costly. It is important to ensure a safe operation and the low cost. It is an Important Task in ferrous metallurgy that is studied on reliability and heat preservation of torpedo car.In the paper, the analysis object is 320t torpedo car made in a metallurgical vehicles factory. The structure of car frame, temperature field of pot and thermal-stress of shell are analyzed with ANSYS. The model is created with shell structure in the structure analysis, static stress on car frame is calculated with the finite element method (FEM). This paper compares and analyzes the changes of the stress when shell thickness is changed. The nonlinear factors from the temperature-dependant properties, radiation and the nonlinear factors from the heat transfer are considered. The temperature field and thermal stress field are simulated with FEM. The static stress of shell is calculated with FEM.The measured temperature of the shell in that factory consists with the simulation by FEM. It proves that the simulation is correct. It has a beneficial reference to extend body using life and improve security .All above can also provides some theoretic references for maintenance and design of torpedo car.
