An explosion occurred on November 13, 2005 at a petrochemical plant of the Jilin Petrochemical Corporation in Jilin Province, which spewed 100 tons of pollutants into the water. The fatal water contamination accident in Songhua River results in terrible effects on industry, agriculture and residents' life, and brings a great harm to the valley ecosystem environment safety. Owing to its environmental chemical property, some of nitrobenzene will be captured in ice and riverbed sediments. For the great differences of organic poison between frozen period and unfrozen period, to strengthen the organic poison pollution treatment in frozen period is the key of solving river organic poison pollution.Researchers have been carried on the following aspects: 1) based on the analysis results of nitrobenzene concentration in ice samples, the features of longitudinal distribution, landscape distribution and vertical distribution have been investigated, moreover, the abnormalities of nitrobenzene concentration in Harbin and Demoli sections have been explained reasonably by discussing through water discharge and river channel characteristics, 2) on the basis of the investigation of ice conditions in Songhua River, the meteorological conditions in major sections have been analyzed firstly, and the meteorological elements in others have been spatial interpolated, then the ice-growth model named modified Stephen model has been set up to calculate the variation of ice thickness with time in each section, 3) a numerical model has been set up to calculate the nitrobenzene concentration in polluted ice based upon the analysis of ice conditions, furthermore, using cubic spline interpolation approximation, the time of pollutant masses passing through, the position of polluted ice in ice samples and the background concentration have been confirmed, so the nitrobenzene concentration in polluted ice can be found out yet, the residue content of nitrobenzene in polluted ice has been figured out with the calculation of polluted ice volume afterwards, 4) the thawing rate has been confirmed through the thawing rate experiment, and the forecast model has been set up to evaluate the water quality in spring thaw. It is showed that the release of nitrobenzene will not cause any effects on water using along the bank of Songhua River.
