In the structure design of injection mould, there exists much work related to the design of standard parts and their corresponding pockets. Furthermore, the machining parameter tables for every single type of hole should be labeled on the drawing. All of these matters are troublesome and time-consuming, which will reduce the design efficiency at some extent. In this thesis, the correlative techniques to solve the problems mentioned above are researched. By using an associated design method, the design of standard parts, their corresponding holes, and the related drawing labels can be created quickly. The purpose of associated design is to keep the consistency of design data while a mould CAD system is used to design an injection mould. Its essence is to maintain the relationship between the designed objects and the design constraints, in order that while an object is updated, the others related to it can also be changed properly. According to the characteristics of injection moulds, the associated design method is proposed based on UG platform. Four methods are used to implement the functions of association design, namely variable-based associated design, UDF-based associated design, UDO-based associated design and attribute-based associated design. They are applied in the modules of standard part design, the pocket design and the drawing label to keep the designed objects associated. UDF is used to design the standard parts and the related on mould plate. UDO is applied to record the relationship between standard part and its corresponding pockets. Meanwhile, it is also used as an event-driven function to capture the changes of an object and update the related ones. As for the drawing labels of those holes, the attribute method is used to link the hole entity and its parameters, therefore the hole tables and labels can be created automatically. While creating the hole table, the table cells can be split or merged according to the hole parameters. All the research results mentioned above has been embedded in the CAD system for injection mould, which has been applied very well in practical design.
