A small quantity of metal exists in the heavy oil in some forms, which can cause some trouble in the course of petroleum process. For example, in the process of FCC, the metal nickel and vanadium are eliminated and congregated on the surface of catalysts in the form of sulfide, which can block the pore of catalysts and foul the active sites. So we select a crude oil, Liaohe extra-heavy oil which contains a lot of nickel, as the reaction material to study the demetallization of heavy oil and the application in the slurry-bed hydro conversion process.In order to study the content and the form of nickel in Loathe oil, this article makes full use of AAS to determine the content of nickel and choose the Url-Vis to confirm the form of nickel. The results showed that that content of nickel was 93.2ug/g in crude oil, but abundant of nickel was congregated in resin. It also revealed that the special peak of nickel porphyrin could be displayed by acetonitrile extraction and the form of nickel porphyrin could be determined by further MSA extraction, which existed in the shape of ETIO. And the experiment indicated that the nickel was be removed by MSA.Another purpose of this article was to study the nickel porphyrin's function in slurry bed hydro conversion process, so the nickel in resin was removed by MSA extraction, and according to the proportion of crude oil we could make a new"crude oil", then make use of these two kinds of crude oil to study the function of metal nickel in slurry bed hydro conversion process.The result showed that metal in porphyrin compound was separated at the temperature of 390~420℃by thermal reaction and HDM, those removed nickel could combine with surfur and produce a new material which was called metal-surfide, which could have an effect on reaction. And it also revealed that the CS2 could accelerate the reaction of HDM. But at higher temperature, some coke came into being and it could surround that metal-surfide. It implied that the coke blocked the function of metal-surfide in the reaction. So the nickel porphyrin had the function of"selfcatalysis".
