Disperse dye particle size influences the cost and quality of dyeing directly. If the particle size of disperse dye decreases the dosage of dye will be reduced and the dyeing process can be simplied. In this paper, the disperse dye was dispersed with grinder, and the liquid super-fine disperse dye had nano-scaled diameter little PDI and good stability. The preparation stability and dyeing properties were studied.A common disperse dye disperse agents and grinder were determined. The effects of grinding processes were studied. The results indicated that with grinding speed increasing, the size of particle reduced, the PDI decreased first and then increased. The longer the grinding time was, the particle size and PDI were smaller. The optimal dosage of disperse agent was determined. The dispersion had some stability but couldn't satisfy the need when the sodium lignosulphonate was used only. The stability of dispersion could be improved obviously when some nonionic dispersant was added in, and the diameter of disperse dye changed little after a long standing time; the effects of disperse agent on the viscosity and Zeta potential were studied too.In order to study the stability of dispersion, some addictives were added into the dispersion. The addictives such as acids, alkalis, metal salts and alcohols will affect the stability and heat adaptability of dispersion. The results indicated that when the pH value was 1.0 or 13.5, the particle size of disperse dye had a dramatic changes. The Zeta potential increased firstly and decreased afterward with the increase of pH value. If the pH value was too low or too high, the stability of dispersion would be very poor. The effects of metal salts and alcohols on dispersion stability were same. With the dosages of metal salts and alcohols increasing, the diameter of disperse dye became smaller firstly and larger afterward, The Zeta potential, the stability and heat adaptability decreased straightly. The effects would be more obviously if the valence of metal salt was high and the number of hydroxyl group of alcohols was big.In further experiments the H-bond was proved existent between the dispersant and disperse dye by infrared reflectance spectroscopy. Polyester fabric was dyed by superfine disperse dye. The color properties were measured after dyed. The results showed that the smaller the diameter of disperse dye was, the better the color properties were. The K/S value, color sharpness, rub fastness, soaping fastness were better if the particles were smaller.
