The waste drilling fluids are the main pollutants produced in petroleum exploration and development. If handled improperly, the contaminations will enter the environment and pollute the area environment. Then, the development of petroleum industry will be restricted by environment pollution. The CODCr content, pH value, salinity and chroma of waste drilling fluids are much higher than those regulated in standards. According to the characteristics of waste drilling fluids, a harmless treatment process of the waste drilling fluid was completed in two steps. Firstly, synthesized a kind of cationic flocculants PDA, flocculated-subsided waste drilling water with PAC, and obtained the optimum dosage. Secondly, solidified the sludge of first stage and waste drilling mud, developed the solidification optimum dosage and construction procedure. The conclusions of this study as follows: (1) Synthesized PDA with high intrinsic viscosity and cationicity upon orthogonal optimum conditions. Waste drilling waters were treated well by PDA and PAC with flock barite weighting. The out water can accord with Standard Code (GB8978-1996). (2) Through testing the CODCr content of leaching water and compressing strength of solid body, the optimum solidification dosage was obtained. The water quality indexes of leaching water achieved discharge standards. And the biological toxicity tests showed that the water became nontoxic. (3) Studied on mechanisms of flocculation and solidification. (4) According to the experiment results, the unified treatment technological process of waste drilling fluid has been designed initially and the treatment economic efficiency has been analyzed simply. It will be important significant if the treatment applied into the practice.
