It is well known that DME has many advantageous properties as a proper substitute for diesel or intermediate compound. In this paper, the characteristics and the applications of DME, the development of DME in home and abroad and the methanol dehydration catalyst were summarized. Meanwhile, high-temperature strongly acidic catalyst resin was firstly used as methanol dehydration catalyst, and the effect of factors, such as temperature, pressure and space velocity were discussed, then the optimal reaction conditions were obtained: T=155℃,P=2.5MPa,SV=0.5h-1; A new approach, catalytic distillation was put foward on the basis of the catalyst resin mentioned above. It is proved that catalytic distillation can increase the conversion of methanol at the same time separating water from the reacting system; Several catalyst resin were tested in the experiment, eventually a relatively active and stabile one was selected, on which the conversion can reach 70%; At last the reaction mechanism kinetics model of methanol dehydration was put forward and the kinetic parameters were obtained by regression of the experimental date; Finally, the problems encountered and future research proposals were discussed.
