In recent years, preparing carbon-based materials with electro-deposition method has been successfully carried on, which indicates the possibilities of the electro-synthesis of carbon-based materials. Along with the further study, researches have been broadened from simplest carbon films to binary carbon based materials, such as carbon nitrides and so on. In view of similarities between boron nitrides and carbon-based materials, we suppose that this novel electro-deposition method can be used to prepare boron nitrides. And in term of method, this new preparation technology could be a great development. From the view of material, our study may provide a new approach for the synthesis of these materials. So it has important theoretic and practical meaning. We take the lead in using electro-deposition method to prepare boron nitrides.First of all, a brief introduction on experimental and theoretical results about the electrodepositing carbon-based materials was given. Based on these conclusions, we made theoretical analysis and experiment verification for the feasibility of using electro-deposition method to prepare boron nitrides. We tested the phenomena and rules appeared in the former studies, and all these could be effectively carried out in our experimental conditions. Then the initial experimental scheme was established. We made reiterate experiments to explore the appropriate boric sources, nitric sources and technological conditions, and found the best experimental parameters.Boric acid and N, N-dimethyl formamide were chosen as appropriate predecessors at the present experimental stage. B-richer B50N2 nanorods were successfully synthesized by the technique of electrolysis, using a solution of mixed dimethylformamide and boric acid as the electrolyte and titanium sheet as the substrate. This was the first international report on the synthesis boron nitride by electro-deposition method. The subsequently experiment broke the conventional experimental condition which using sheet electrodes. Glow discharge electrolysis method was used to do experiments. The proportion of boron and nitrogen atom was optimized to 1:1. It was a mixture of boron nitrides and the main component was orthorhombic phase. The effect of experimental conditions, such as electrolyte solutions, voltage, substrate and the distance between electrodes, on the preparation of boron nitrides by electro-deposition has been studied. The relativities between these conditions and the deposition process, the chemical composition, and the structure of samples were also researched. Firm basis was made for further study on the preparation of boron nitrides and its industrialized design. In addition, we have also made a pilot study on the mechanism, which served for the preparation of boron nitrides by electro-deposition. |
