Polypropylene is used in many ways. But its inert and low surface energy restricts itsfurther application. To overcome these disadvantages, surface modification is frequentlyemployed to enhance the printability and bondability of the products made of polypropylene byintroducing polar groups onto the surface of polypropylene. Adding surface modifiers into thepolymer is an effective and convenient way to obtain the functional surface depending on thepreferential segregation of additives. Compared with the effect of adding the small moleculesurface modifier, the effect of adding macromolecular surface modifier can stand much longer. In this paper we have demonstrated that dicarboxyl telechelic isotactic polypropylene canbe readily produced by the oxidative degradation of commercially available crystallinepolypropylene with nitric acid. The combination of the difunctional telechelic polypropylene andhydroxyl-terminated PLA has produced a lot of novel and interesting block copolymersPP-b-PLA which can be used as surface modifier of PP. Another new surface modifier of PP,PP-b-PDMS is synthesized by the combination of the difunctional telechelic polypropylene andhydroxyl-terminated polysiloxane. In order to get epoxy-terminated polystyrenes, haloester withfunctional epoxy group as the efficient initiator and CuCl/Bpy as the catalyst system. Thecombination of the difunctional telechelic polypropylene and epoxy-terminated PS has produceda kind of block copolymer PP-b-PS.These block copolymers have the special structure. And when blend with polypropylene, itis expected that they can enhance the surface energy of the matrix.
