The properties and the applications of nano-ferric oxide materials have been simply introduced. And it is outlined that the prepararion methods of nano ferric oxide red in this thesis. The ferric oxide red was prepared by homogeneous precipitation method, using urea as the precipitator introduced by dripping slowly. The factors that will influence the size, the shape and the yield of the product, for example, the concentration of Fe2+, the reaction time, the reaction temperature and the mole ratio of urea and Fe2+, were examined. The structure and the properties of the products were characterized by TG, XRD, IR, UV-Vis and TEM. The performance of their photocatalytic degradation for three kinds of dyes, fruit green, alkali yellow and brilliant blue, were studied. The effects of the catalyst dosage, degradation time and the existence of air on the discoloring rate of the three dyes were observed. And the application in epoxy resin dope was studied. The optimization conditions for preparation of nanorods ferric oxide were established, which is the concentration of Fe2+ is 0.5mol/L, the reaction temperature is 80℃, the reaction time is 180min, the mole ratio of urea/Fe2+ is 20:1.Under the conditions the precipitations of FeOOH were gained. And then, the precipitations were calcined at the temperature of 350℃for 2h the ferric oxide could be gained. The results of the XRD and the TEM showed that the shape of the particle was nano-virgulate a-Fe2O3, it belongs to hexagonal system. The major axis of the samples is about 300~500nm, and the minor axis is about 20~40nm. The yield of a-Fe2O3 is about 75.90% and the color is ponceau. The absorbency of the varnish sample that contains 5%(w/v) nanorods a-Fe2O3 is very good for ultraviolet radiation and for visible light is faintish. The transmittance of visible light is higher than 85%. It can be used for transparent ferric oxide red palette. As the dosage of the photocatalyst were 0.6g/L, 0.6g/L and 0.8g/L respectively for 10mg/L solutions of fruit green, alkali yellow and for 20mg/L brilliant blue dye solution, under the conditions that photocatalytic degradation time was 150min and the velocity of air flow was 20ml/min, the decoloring rate of the three dye were 97.98%,94.89% and 92.64%, respectively. As the dosage of a-Fe2O3 nanorods was 5% in epoxy resin dope, the clinger strength of the film coating was up to 1st grade, and the resisting wallop of the film coating was up to 50kg-1·cm, the rigidity and the resisting scrape quality were all improved.
