Polyhedral oligmeric silsesquioxane (POSS) reacted with methyl methacrylate (MMA) and styrene (St) respectively to prepare three new organiclinorganic nanocomposites by emuision polymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization. Structures, composition and dispersion of the three composites were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR), X-ray diffaction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and laser particle size analyzer. Thermal properties of the nanocomposites were determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis thermograms (TGA). The main contents of this dissertation consist of the following points:1. The studies of organic/inorganic nanocomposites were reviewed. Polymer/POSS nanocomposites was summarized based on the synthesis methods, thermal property and enhancement mechanism.2. POSS/PMMA was synthesized by emuision polymerization, another kind of POSS/PMMA and POSS/PS were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization. Structures, composition and dispersion of the three composites were characterized by FTIR, XPS, NMR, XRD, TEM and laser particle size analyzer.3. Thermal properties of the three POSS/Polymers nanocomposites were investigated by DSC and TGA. It was found that Tg and Td of the POSS/PMMA and POSS/PS nanocomposites materials were improved even in low POSS content.
