The Research Of The Social Vulnerability To Natural Hazards In Chongqing

The conception of the Social Vulnerability to the natural disaster has been redefined by elaboration of the correlative theories of the natural disaster. This article has analyzed the disaster social origin and influence mechanism, and has initially established the society vulnerability conceptual model to the nature hazards using the sociology theories. It has analyzed the background of the disaster which occurs in Chongqing, respectively from the individual, organization and social. County-level socioeconomic and demographic data were used to construct an index of social vulnerability to the natural hazards, the data of the Social Vulnerability Index of the natural hazards for Chongqing in 2005 .The index has been rectified mainly through the factor analytic approach, and then each county natural disaster society vulnerability index in Chongqing has been calculated. For the Chongqing society vulnerability to the natural hazards has been scored and proposed the suggestion.Through the quantitative method and the GIS technology, the article analyzes statistically the 40-county social structure and the crowd vulnerable condition, discovers the major factor, and determines the vulnerabale regions in Chongqing. The result showes that, the Chongqing central area is the most vulnerable under the equivalence natural hazards.And relatively, the society vulnerability of other majority districts in the urban is not obvious. The main reason that leads to the county vulnerability is that the society develops unbalanceably in the west area of Chongqing and the other areas around the majority county, and the society has the industrialized and transition social characters. The main areas in southeast Chongqing and Three Gorges as the economic society concentrates low, the synthesis score of the society vulnerability degree is relative high, but, as a result of the society agricultural population massive existences and the city and countryside social development difference, the characteristic that the model agricultural society,the social capital insufficiency and the less level of the social development cause the community organization relation to be frail, and the individual vulnerability is most prominent in Chongqing. People thought generally that Chongqing's social history background and the existing productive forces level had decided Chongqing's social structure and the development level, and it just was the primary cause that influences the difference of the society vulnerability to natural disaster, simultaneously it was also the determining factor that determines the ability of resists the natural calamities in Chongqing.
