In terms of molecular fragment principle, by selecting aromatic carboxylic acids with predominant optical properties as effective sensitizer in the synthesis of coordination polymers, design and assembly of novel luminescent lanthanide complexes with chemical coprecipitation or hydrothermal methods, and then probing their crystal structure and photophysical properties, as well as the dependence relations between the luminescence characteristics and the corresponding coordination environment around rare earth ions and the structure of the complexes. To control the coordination assembly process, the structures and properties of the complexes, it is not only an attempt confined to selection associated with ligands and reaction conditions, but also a challenge, meanwhile an opportunity for chemists to understand how these factors such as ligand geometry, counterion, solvent, pH and reaction temperature that exert an influence on the variable coordination propensity of the metal ions, affect the configuration, crystal packing as well as the dependence relations among them.In this paper, we place emphasis on the structure and luminescent properties of four different kinds of complexes and their molecular formulas are:[Ln(isophth)(Hisophth)(H2O)4·4H2O]n (Ln = Sm, Dy) are an isostructural series, and isophth/Hisophth = isophthalic acid. X-rays single-crystal diffraction indicates that the compounds belong to monoclinic crystal system and P2(1)/c point symmetry. The samarium compound, isomorphous with dysprosium were determined and achieve a chain-like configuration by one of the two isophthalic acid ligands in bidentate chelated pattern, while the other isophthalic acid only offer a single carboxylic acid group to bond which is abbreviated as 'Hisophth'. And the isophthalic acid is becoming to the sensitization of blue luminescence of Dy(III).[Zn(dipic)2(H2O)2](H2O) is a monomer, which crystallizes in triclinic crystal system and P-1, with lattice parameters a = 6.501(5) A|°, b = 8.253(6) A|°, c = 8.645(7) A|°, α = 71.238(10)°,β = 80.288(11)°, γ = 79.695(9) °,V= 429.0(6) (A|°)3 Dc = 1.810...
