| Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and its composites have excellent mechanical properties and resistance to high temperature, erosion and wear. Some key parts of automobile, airplane and chemical instrument, particularly the parts for wear have been made from the material. The friction and wear properties of plain PEEK, and PEEK composite reinforced with carbon fiber , glass fiber, etc. under dry and water lubrication condition are studied in the paper using the traditional wear testing method. The effects of thermal aging on the above features are studied as well. The main results are:1) Dry wear and friction properties of PEEK-30wt.%CF(PEEK reinforcing with 30wt.% carbon fiber) with steel counterpart:The sliding distance factor (P = 60.58%) and the pv factor (P = 24.97%) have great influence on the friction coefficient. The temperature factor and the interactions (pv/temperature, pv/sliding distance and temperature/sliding distance) are insignificant in the friction coefficient. The factors temperature (P = 45.98%) and sliding distance (P = 26.07%) have influence on the weight loss. The factor pv and the interactions (pv/temperature, pv/sliding distance and temperature/ sliding distance) are insignificant in the weigh0t loss value.Wear morphology changes significantly with temperature. Abrasive wear occurs and transfer film forms around fiber under room temperature. Fiber movement along shear direction and disbanding between fiber and matrix occur under high temperature.2) Water lubricated wear and friction properties of PEEK-30wt.%CF(PEEK reinforcing with 30wt.% carbon fiber) with steel counterpart:The factors affecting the friction force are roughness (48.1%) followed by sliding... |
