Two new compounds, 2-formylrubrene and 4,5-Di-furan-2-yl-2-(5,6,11,12-tetraphenyl-naphthacen-2-yl)-1H-imidazole were synthesized by using benzoquinone as a material, through a series of reactions, such as Diels-Alder cyclic addition, dehydration, free radical bromination, hydroformylation, nucleophilic addition, reduction, and Debus reaction. At the same time, we also obtained the corresponding intermediates, such as 6-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinone, 2-methyl-6,11-diphenyl-5,12 -naphthacenequinone, 2-dibromomethyl-6,11-diphenyl-5,12-naphthacenequinone, 2-methyl-5,6,11,12-tetraphenyl-5,12-diol, 2-methylrubrene, 2-formyl-6,11-diphenyl-5,12-naphthacenequione, 2-(1,3)Dioxolan-2-yl-6,11 -diphenyl-naphthacene-5,12-dione, 2-(4,5-Di-furan-2-yl-1H-imidazol-2-yl)-6,11-diphenyl-naphthacene-5,12-dione.We not only optimized the reaction conditions of some intermediates' synthesis but also ameliorated several intermediates' synthesis routes. At the same time, some products were characterized by MS, IR, NMR, UV and FL spectra.We also explored the synthesis route of 2-formylrubrene and 4,5-Di-furan-2-yl-2-(5,6,11,12-tetraphenyl-naphthacen-2-yl)-1H-imidazole, optimized their reaction conditions. For the first time, we gained the pure compounds, detected its structure and gained correlative datum.We have successfully fabricated the device (ITO/CuPc/NPB/NPB:3%2-methylrubrene/TPBi/LiF/Al) utilizing sublimed 2-formylrubrene via vacuum deposition. Its electro -luminescence(EL) characteristics have been studied.The performance of liquid UV and solid FL of rubrene, 2-methylrubrene, 2-formylrubrene, 4,5-Di-furan-2-yl-2-(5,6,11,12-tetraphenyl-naphthacen-2-yl)-1H-imidazole was compared. And detected their chroma and quantum yield. The relationships between UV and FL with the structures of target products were discussed, and some results with theoretical and practical significance were obtained, so the valuable information for further developing organic luminescent materials was offered.
