In this work, a new catalyst had been employed in the reaction of diol and urea in order to prepare the dicarbamate compounds. Through a lot of experiments, the optimized reaction conditions with good yields have been found. Using this method, five dicarbamate compounds, 1,4-phenylenebis(methylene)dicarbamate(L1), 1,4-buta- nediyldicarbamate(L2), 3-oxo-1,5-pentanediyldicarbamate(L3), 2-butyne-1,4-diyldica- rbamate (L4) and cis-2-butene-1,4-diyldicarbamate(L5) have been synthesized. Their structures were confirmed by IR and 1H NMR.In addition, the self-assembly rule and hydrogen bonding interaction involved in self-assembly of dicarbamates in solid state were systematically studied by the analysis of the crystal structures of L1~L3, which may have potential application in the design of supramolecular structure.
