1,1,1-trifluoroethane (HFC-143a) is one of the proposed substitutes for CFC compounds. In our study, the production of HFC-143a was made by lab and pilot test.Based on the investigation on the related patents and literature, the synthesis route using ethylene dichloride as feedstock was selected and the equipment for lab synthesis test was built. In the equipment, the effect of reaction temperature, feed ratio and reaction residence time (space velocity) on the conversion ratio of feedstock and the selectivity of product was investigated and the optimized reaction condition was obtained.On the basis of the lab test results, the design of flow diagram for pilot test was followed. It includes technics flow, selection of equipment and material, enactment of process control and analysis methods, wastes disposal and safety technology. In addition to that, the design of the reactor and some separation tower was emphasized.The pilot equipment was built and the related pre-experiment was done. The results show that the design for pilot test was reliable.A primary assumtion was also made on the industrial production of HFC-143a.
