Considering the features of heavy polluted river environment, the application model and purification ability of bivalves and plant floating-bed in Suzhou heavy polluted river was studied based on former's work, making the application of filter feeders in Wastewater recycling engineering possible. Some conclusions were summed up through many outdoor and indoor experiments as following:Cristaria plicala could adapt heavy polluted water well, and a biological filter system was formed in the water area where cristaria plicala lived, making the water filtered and purified. With its strong algae filtering ability, cristaria plicala could remove over 90% suspended substance and chlorophyll in the water. Thus, it would be feasible to use as biological material to improve water environment.Bivalve filtering rate was correlated with its weight; its filtering ability became stronger when its weight increased. Therefore, adult bivalve over three years old, which has bigger shape, should be chosen. And the bivalves should be designedly get out of the water in order to remove suspended substance and algae, improving the pollued water.The purification technique, combining bivalve and plant floating-bed, could not only get rid of suspended substance and algae, but also remove the nutrient effectively. When using this technique, it would be better to put 1.25kg plant and 3-4ind bivalves in 1m~2 heavy polluted water, and bivalve raising depth of water should not be over 50cm. Moreover, when choosing the raising area, factors such as traffic, manipulation and administration should also be considered, giving reasonable attentions to the economic performance of raising bivalves and the social performance of Wastewater treatment.Biodiversity protection is one of the most important factors of ecological environment protection. By increasing the bivalves amount artificially with plant floating-bed, could strengthen the water ecological system stability and promote the substance recycling, finally purifying the water quality.In conclusion, the manipulation of the purification model which conbines filter feeder and plant floating-bed is facile and it has great popularizing value for similar water areas.
