Now activated sludge process is being widely applied to the urban wastewater treatment, the greatest advantage of being able to save processing costs, and its shortcomings of the activated sludge produced substantial surplus compared with other processing method. The cost of processing and final disposal of excess activated sludge usually accounted for the entire cost of the sewage treatment plant above 40%, it becomes the main puzzling question of the plants, while the reduction of excess sludge is one of the most important processing method.Currently the research of excess activated sludge reduction technology are two directions: One is from the source to begin, this method can reduce the sludge quantities from its socrce, for example: the uncoupling technology, the biology prey etc; Another method can achieve the purpose of reduction by using physical, chemistry methods. Nowdays sludge concentration and dewatering are still the most important ways to reduction of excess actatived sludge. First, this paper research the effect of uncoupler 2,6-dichlorophenol(DCP) and heavy metal wastewater containning Cu2+ on the settleability and dewatering of actatived sludge. Second, resesrch the effect of uncoupler and Cu2+ on EPS and its constituents and explan the impact of EPS, carbohydrate and protein on the sludge volume index(SVI) and specific resistance to filtration(SRF). Those all based on the reduction of heavy metal wastewater sludge by using uncoupler. Through contrast analysis we found sludge volume index(SVI) which attribute the settleability of sludge appears fluctuation at the beginning of this laboratory experiment, this fluctuation mainly caused as a result of the Cu2+ existence of heavy metal wastewater, but it approach steady state with time passing; Compared two types reactors, SVI of SBR(Sequencing Batch Reactor) lower than initial value at the terminal of experiment, while SVI of fully mixed reactor higher than initial value, have an rising tendency. Specific resistance to filtration (SRF) & filtering velocity are improtant index which attribute the dewatering of excess sludge.
