Currently, esterification-saponification method is one of important technique to product borneol from renewable resource turpentine. Factors, which affect primary working procedure -saponification in synthesizing borneol with turpentine (α - Pinene and β -Pinene weight content is more than 95%) by using self-regulating solid sueperacid as catalyst, was studied systematically, at the same time, preparation of solid sueperacid catalyst and it's catalytic activity in saponification was also studied.It was found that different catalysts has different catalytic activity in saponification, thereinto, solid superacid D4 has optimum catalytic activity. Catalytic activity was affected by the preparation conditions, soaking concentration, baking temperature, baking time was the major factors on it. By orthogonal experiments, it was discovered that optimum technics of preparation of catalyst as follows: baking temperature 600℃, baking time 4h, soaking concentration 1.5 mol/L.The temperature and time of esterification, the ratio of turpentine to oxalic acid, the dosage of catalyst etc. were studied, which affected esterification greatly. By orthogonal experiments, optimum technics of esterification was obtained that the ratio of turpentine to oxalic acid was 2.2:1, the dosage of catalyst was 1.0%, the temperature of esterification was 80℃, and the time of esterification was 6h. According to the optimum technics, the average content of ester was 48.8%. The catalyst life-span and the regeneration of catalyst were also preliminary studied. The results show that the catalyst can be used repeatedly, and it's catalytic activity can maintain long.In conclusion, the above technics are reasonable in theory, in fact, this technics of esterification avoided a lot of disadvantages in traditional synthesis method such as heat releasing acutely in esterification, difficult to manipulate, the danger of blast, simultaneously, removed the working procedure of dehydration of boric acid, reduced environmental pollution partly, answered the purpose of "Green Chemistry". It not only pioneer a new method for the factory, but also obtain better economic interest and social benefits. At the same time, it provides reference for the future study of preparation of catalyst and synthesis borneol.
