Saponin manufacturing wastewater belongs to organic medical wastewater with high density, the water composition is complicated, the acidity is high, the content of organic matter is high, the water body is dark brown, and it contains a considerable amount of non-biodegradable Saponin and surface active substance. The paper aimed at the water characteristic of this kind, the current treatment situation and existing problems, on the basis of making extensive investigation and theory analysis, combine reality , confirmed to adopt Neutralize—UASB—SBR treatment process, which has the characteristic of economic, rational, operate easily and fits for the high density organic acid wastewater. Discussed the form change and treatment mechanism of contaminants during the treatment process, tested the reliability and feasibility of the process and derived the relevant dynamics mode.The start-up process of Up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Bed (UASB) Reactor under the condition of the hydraulic retention time (HRT) was 24h and the normal temperature, at later stage adjusted HRT=36h, temperature 35± 2℃. The experiment result of study showed : High HRT was favorable to improve Volume load (Nv) and treatment effect, at the later stage of the experiment, the influent COD reached 4910.0mg/L, Nv reached 2.45kgCOD/(m~3·d), sludge load (Ns) reached 0.14 kgCOD/(kgVSS·d), the removal efficiency basically kept above 80%. System had cultivated anaerobic granular sludge which had good settlement capability and biological activity.
