High speed steel (HSS) was extensively applied in the industries of tools and dies due to good wear resistance, red-hardness and high plasticity and high toughness. The main alloy elements of HSS observed and used in the world was only used for 40~60 years, but also all storages were only used for 100 years. So saving alloy elements not only has significant strategic meanings, but also reduced the cost of steels.Abrasion, corrosion and rupture were the three main destroying forms of mechanical parts and engineering components, which were often generated on the surface of parts. Therefore it leaded to great economy loss and the main economy loss and mechanical parts failure were caused by abrasion and corrosion every year.Surface modifying technique was an important method of improving material properties, by which the alloying layer of wear resistance was formed on the surface of steel, such as surface HSS or surface aging HSS. So the amount of alloy elements was greatly reduced due to surface alloying.
