Membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology, which combines a conventional biological treatment with advanced membrane separation, is a new technology for wastewater treatment and reuse. MBR systems have almost been widely used in recent 30 years to treat different kinds of water, where a small footprint or stringent discharge standards were required. The startup of MBR system, Influence of different membrane modules to the MBR system, and membrane fouling with its controlling were investigated in this dissertation. The following results have been obtained:Contrasting to conventional activated sludge process, the floc size seems to be smaller with a minimum of 0.84μm. The change of sludge form was recorded in the experiment. In the start-up process, the removal ability of MBR to pollutants is strengthened gradually, especially to COD(75% at least and maximize to 94%) and NH4+-N (At least 93%)removal and NO2-N accumulated in the MBR system due to incomplete reaction. We determined to set the HRT of MBR to 10 hours through many tries. Water of better quality will be got when sucking velocity speeds up but this also accelerates membrane fouling.By comparison with four kinds of membrane modules, the module's abilities to removal pollutants of the feed were investigated. The system without sludge discharge, show good performance in ammonia-nitrogen removal and became harder to removal COD and BOD at the same time. It was shown that the biochemical reactions in the...
