| China is one of the largest pen manufacture and exportation contries in the world, about 80% pens all over the word are made in china. But our pen enterprises weak product self-development capacity, most of them design products still with behindhand common two-dimensional CAD software, and design resources are generally kept in the form of documents and drawings, lack of effectual collation and summarization, with very poor reuse efficiency.In the three-dimensional precision ball pen mould design system based on Reverse Engineering, all the product development flows, like ball pen shape reverse, variant design, mould design and cavity surface machining precision analysis, are integrated as a whole, and it provides with an excellent platform for quick, high quality, low cost product development. But this system falls short of supporting design knowledge reuse and mould conceptual design. In this work, we apply case-based reasoning methodology to the ball pen mould conceptual design phase, realizing design resources reuse and effective management, which has great engineering application meanings in solving design knowledge drain problems due to personnel movements and in improving product development capability and efficiency.This thesis mainly researches on the information modeling and retrieval techniques of ball pen mould conceptual design cases. Firstly, analyzes the characteristics of the ball pen mould design, establishes the frame of ball pen mould design system and the flows of the ball pen mould conceptual design based on CBR. Secondly, studies on the ball pen mould conceptual design case's information model, extracts features of parts and moulds based on the influence factors and goals of the mould conceptual design. In order to deal with the extracted future information more effectively, this segment researches on the ball pen mould design case's content description model. To decrease data redundancy, ball pen mould design case's hierarchy represent model and its relational database storage model are introduced. To improve the efficiency of case retrieval algorithm, a category based organizing structure of ball pen mould design casebase has been built. Thirdly, researches on the case retrieval technique. On the basis of ball pen mould design case's representation model and case base's organization mode, a case retrieval algorithm combining template method and nearest neighbor method is represented.
