| Since EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) has been known, it has drawn wide attention, and has been applied widely in mold manufacturing industry for its own merits. Pulse generator, one of the important parts of EDM, plays an important role in machining. However, the energy utilization rate of most EDM pulse generators all over the world, is low (generally less 30%), so those pulse generators can not meet the requirements of energy-saving and green manufacturing. Under the circumstance of lack of energy, developing energy-saving pulse generator has the value of practical application.This paper introduces the recent researching status of pulse generator all over the world and the basic principle of the cyclically superimposed energy-saving pulse generator for EDM. And this paper designs the peak current detection system using microcomputer PIC16F873 for the cyclically superimposed energy-saving pulse generator.This paper also researches the principle of electrode wear in EDM, analyzes the character of electrode wear of the cyclically superimposed energy-saving pulse generator and comes to the conclusion that the huge electrode wear of the cyclically superimposed energy-saving pulse generator is caused by the high frequency agitation because of its own characters.At last, we use this pulse generator to do machining experiments, analyze the difference in power utilization, machining speed and electrode wear between the cyclically superimposed energy-saving pulse generator and the traditional generator. We also find out the parameters lead to the different peak currents of the cyclically superimposed energy-saving pulse generator. At the same time, we research the cause and the character of the high frequency agitation of the peak current of the cyclically superimposed energy-saving pulse generator. |
