Abstract/Summary:
Nowadays electro-optic crystals play a much important role in modern optoelectronics and laser techniques. Such devices as fast optic shutters, Q switches, optic modulators and electro-optic deflectors are all made of electro-optic crystals. The usages of these devices improve the characteristics of the laser, and broaden its applying range, and spur the development of its techniques. At present, the main two electro-optic crystals are uniaxial crystals KD*P and LN. But there are many disadvantages in their electro-optic properties. The half-wave voltage of the KD*P crystal is higher, and the KD*P is deliquescent , so it should be sealed in boxes when KD*P is used its electro-optic effect ; LN is easily damaged at moderate laser power levels. KTP is a material that has been shown to have superior properties for several nonlinear-optical applications, in particular, for frequency doubling the 1-μm radiation of Nd lasers. Its large linear electro-optic v coefficients and low dielectric constants make it attractive for various electro-optic applications, but its high electrical conductivity limit the applying range of the electro-optic. And the development of the science and technology bring about more requirements for the electro-optic crystals, so to find a new electro-optic crystal and to take a further studying of its electro-optic characteristics become an important and urgent task.The structure and general properties of both RTP and KTP crystals were introduced briefly. The small electrical conductivity of RTP crystals make it attractive for electro-optic devices. Therefore, the study of the electro-optic effect of the RTP crystal is a meaningful and innovative work. The main contents are as follows:1.
