The stability of the tailing dam from the upper section is one of the most difficult, problems of tailings disposal. The mine company is in urgent need to solve this problem for sustainable development and environmental protection. On the basis of the project of the Li west ditch tailing dam, the ways of theoretical analysis and numerical calculation combine with the project practice are taken to further. Study the physics and mechanics character of the pilled tailing dam, deposit law of the tailing and the stability of the tailing dam. The main achievements gotten are shown as follows:(1) The based law of the tailing dam pilling and the granule component , water ratio, void ratio and shearing strength etc,Physics and mechanics indexing character, the distribution law and the interdependence of the horizon and vertical, are gotten by analyzing and summarizing the large quantities of the test achievements from indoor and out door, which do good to calculate and evaluate the stability of tailing dam;(2) Analysis the height of the loose pilled slope was height than 130m, the stability of the Li west ditch tailing dam at present and in future, was analyzed by using the method of static and dynamic calculation (similar, static and earthquake stability analysis). The results about stability indifferent conditions were obtained. It is showed that the dam at present (+1273.92m) and the designed altitude (+1300m) are stable; when the dam's height will be up to the drafted altitude +1330m and in the specific condition (flood and earthquake together), the stable coefficient will be 1.041, that is smaller than the code's value 1.05, the dam will be unstable, which is not content with the code requirement; with the dialing dam pilled on, up to + 1350m, its stable coefficient is 1.145 which is slightly smaller than code's value 1.15, and the dam will in the limit equilibrium state; the stable coefficient in the specific condition(flood and earthquake together) will be up to 1.019 that is smaller than the code's (1.05), the dam will be in unstable and unsafe, and the dam should be...
